Application Blocking:
The Application
Blocking feature lets the system
administrator create a “blacklist” of
applications which users will no longer be
able to execute from their computers. With
Browse Control's application blocking
feature, system administrators can block
users from running dangerous,
time-consuming or nuisance applications
such as P2P software (Morpheus, Kazaa,
Grokster, Gnutella, etc.), personal
messaging applications or specified games.
Browse Control uses the software’s
internal Windows name, so users cannot
just rename the files to fool Browse
Control.
Due to the technical
nature of Peer-to-peer / instant messaging
applications you will find that they
attempt to connect to their servers using
various ports until they find an open
port. By blocking these applications using
Browse Control the program will not be
able to execute at all. At any point if
you need access to one of these
applications you can easily remove it from
your list of blocked applications.
Capable of preventing employees from using
time-consuming applications, Browse
Control's application blocker will be
triggered immediately by any attempt to
launch any of the applications which are
specified on the Browse Control AppBlocker
list and deny it's execution. A corporate
message can also be displayed when a user
attempts to run any of the blacklisted
applications. Browse Control's Application
blocker can also beneficial to education
institutions which may wish to restrict
students from using unauthorized
applications during valuable computer lab
time.
